I got asked what I do when the Agile Project Manager is late for their own daily meeting?
Team runs the meeting
The key word in there is “own”. Run correctly the daily meeting should be for the team. If the normal facilitator doesn’t show up for whatever reason then somebody else should step in to run it. That is healthy.
That is what I suggested to the person who originally asked the question . . . why not just do it yourself? If it is useful it will happen.
Lip service Agile
If nobody steps in to facilitate then the daily meeting probably is owned by the project manager rather than the team. This hints at lip service Agile. With wider implications. Agile is probably going to fail unless the team start to adopt the practices as their own.
People management
Daily meeting aside you’ve got a key person not turning up on time. That is a people management issue and Lean-Agile has little to add except a general encouragement to talk.
This post is part of my What do I do When … ? series. Please drop me a line or add a comment if you’ve got a question you’d like answered.
you should start on time, the late guys will catch up later,
after few times they will learn.
